Hey! My name’s Paris Laban -Wong See, born in Wellington, New Zealand and now live on the Gold Coast, Australia since 2010. I am Samoan, Chinese, German and Tokelauan.
All my teenage life I’ve been told by countless strangers, family and friends that I should take upon modelling. Not exaggerating. Almost everyday. I was never really the ‘girly’ type though, so I never thought of it. Until one day I was out shopping and a photographer found me, we spoke about modelling stuff and whatever (I was 15 years old). This was when I became more interested. I mean realistically, I had nothing to lose and it was worth a try.
2015 – A year later, I finally entered a competition for Katz Model Management, around 800 inspiring models entered I got chosen for the top 30. There were a couple of local catwalks and furthermore, I got into the top 14 models and scored a 2 year modelling contract with them! I was overwhelmed but excited.
2016 – I took a models course for 12 weeks (January – March) it covered ALL the basics and knowledge about the modelling industry, how to ‘be a model’, etc. It was fun and expensive… The course was worth it though and taught me many things I didn’t know. But instead of going straight through to my contract and starting, as usual, the parents said to focus on school! As it was my last year in year 12 and it was stressful.
The end of 2016, November 12th, was the most memorable night of my life so far! I walked my first ever huge catwalk in Sydney at the Dockside Pavilion, Darling Harbor. It was AMAZING as it was a Pacific Runway Fashion! It had many island cultures, the designs were all stunning and the people/models were ridiculously nice, pretty and funny! This was the night I knew I wanted to pursue modelling.
